Atlanta Journal Constitution — When Georgia Republicans gather this coming weekend in Savannah, five men and one woman will have a job to do.
It’s more than 11 months before hopefuls can even officially become candidates for 2010 races, more than 14 months before the Republican primary and nearly a full year and a half before the 2010 general election —- yet the weekend is, to some degree, crucial.
It’s when those six people —- Secretary of State Karen Handel, Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine, U.S. Rep. Nathan Deal (R-Ga.), state Sen. Eric Johnson (R-Savannah), state Rep. Austin Scott (R-Tifton) and states’ rights activist Ray McBerry —- face the largest annual gathering of Republican activists and make the case for why they should be the next governor of Georgia.

I’m just curious why Ray is list last. He ranked 3rd in the state wide straw pole, has county coordinators in over 80 counties of Georgia, ranked 2nd in the 11th district straw pole, and is doing quite well in the politicalvine.com poll. It would make sense to at least list him third. Just my opinion–or first, since he’s the only true Constitutionally restrained government candidate, and most true to the Republican platform. It is also refreshing to have a candidate that isn’t a career politician or former Democrat on the Republican ticket.
It wasn’t intentional or a reflection on Mr. McBerry. But, it might be that he is least likely to win a statewide election against better known and financed candidates. If he proves to hold up you can bet his name will be towards the front of the pack.
Ray is sure to hold up because no one represents the values of the majority of Georgians more than he does! Check out http://www.georgiafirst.org
Thanks for the link, Margarita!
Independents now comprise 1/3 of the available electorate in this country, according to most surveys. The Republicans have lost a dramatic number of voters, and I suspect the majority of them are the “religious right” and social conservative types that the leftists claim are still “holding on tight” in the GOP. The GOP turned to a new path. They haven’t stayed the course. Trying to assert otherwise is ludicrous in the face of these numbers.
Republican and Democrat party ideologues:
There is no way you people are going to stranglehold this nation forever in service of your misguided ambitions. The people won’t allow it. We don’t exist for your convenience. Nor do we take it for granted that you career “leaders” on the nation are the all-knowing elites. As individual politicians, it matters not whether you are willing accomplices or useful idiots to this expanisionist frenzy toward socialism. The point is, we are still going there, and many people are going to stop it. The very evidence of mounting uncertainty, fear and poverty are PROOF POSITIVE that we are going in the wrong direction. The left is evil. They MUST BE STOPPED.
Jonathan , check back here in a few days or so. We are going to be running something on this topic concerning Republican losses and where they went.
