New Jersey lawmaker looks to lead GOP down center path

The Hill-Freshman Rep. Leonard Lance (R-N.J.) is in the middle of one of the biggest debates in the Republican Party — whether it should adhere to a purer ideology or take a big-tent approach to politics.

Lance is a fiscal conservative and social centrist who emphasizes his environmental record — the big-tent approach that pure conservatives love to hate.

On Crist’s Senate Candidacy

Posted on 12 May 2009 by Jason | Comments (0) | Tags: 2010 elections, bloggers, Charlie Crist, Republican candidates, U.S. Senate

AMERICAblog News– I think some of the D.C. pundit types are under-estimating just how ugly this could become for Crist — and the ugliness will be coming from Crist’s fellow Republicans.

The Other McCain — Those treacherous bastards!NRSC to endorse Charlie Crist?

Hot Air — Conservatives may well wonder why the NRSC has interfered in a GOP primary

Real Clear Politics — The GOP leaders announced their support for Crist despite the fact that another respected Republican is running — State Rep. Marco Rubio, the former Florida House speaker.

The Plum Line — Barely moments after the news broke that Governor and stimulus-supporter Charlie Crist has entered the Florida GOP primary, his conservative opponent already has a new ad attacking him — with an image of President Obama, whose performance is supported by strong majorities and by Independents.

Attack ads keeping things tight in New Jersey

NewsMax — The race for governor has gotten nasty earlier than usual, with attack ads hitting the airwaves, Internet, and phone lines less nearly a month before New Jersey’s June 2 primary.

Once considered a long shot to win the Republican primary, Steve Lonegan seems to be closing in on former U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie, the favorite of the state’s GOP establishment. Lonegan is within 10 percentage points of Christie in polls, and only slightly behind Democratic Gov. Jon S. Corzine in general election polls.

National Republican Senatorial Committee endorses Crist

Posted on 12 May 2009 by Jason | Comments (0) | Tags: 2010 elections, Charlie Crist, National Republican Senatorial Committee, Republican candidates, U.S. Senate

Politico — Even as Gov. Charlie Crist comes under fire from Florida conservatives, he will be getting some important political backing today as he announces that he’s running for the Senate in Florida.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee will be endorsing Crist, according to a senior Hill operative, marking the first time it has taken sides (for a non-incumbent) in a competitive GOP primary this election cycle.

NRSC chairman John Cornyn made the endorsement official this morning, casting Crist as the most electable candidate to hold the seat for the GOP.
